Stand Down, My Soldier

Stand down, my soldier.

No need to fight today.

I promise you, you're safe.

Everything will be okay.

Stand down, my soldier.

Armor weighs on your chest.

I promise you, you're safe.

Put your shields to rest.

Stand down, my soldier.

I'm not here to hurt you.

I promise you, you're safe.

Look, I have scars too.

Stand down, my soldier.

Let your walls come down.

I promise you, you're safe.

In loneliness, you'll drown.

Remember the days when

you didn't feel or see

the hurt that life brings.

Those days, you were free.

I know you must protect

your country, your home.

But a country with no one,

is a country alone.

So,

Stand down, my soldier.

Let me in, let me in.

I promise, you're safe.

Together, we can win.

Stand down, my soldier.

No need to fight today.

Stand guard another time.

Everything will be okay.

To You (No Matter How Much You Fall)

Sometimes, you need to

get out of your own way.

Then maybe you could

see the sun is out today.

The best advice I got

was: "It is what it is."

Life will make more

sense if you realize this.

Today, they could light

up your world and more,

but tomorrow's rain could

have something else in store.

Whatever you do, please,

never stop your dreams.

For those dreams could save

us. As crazy as it seems.

And they might tell you you're

left, when you know you're right.

But, stay strong in yourself

and never give up the fight.

This crazy world needs you.

More than you could ever know.

So, whenever the wind sways you,

don't you ever, ever let go.

And if they say you can't,

just believe that you can.

You're worth is not determined

by the words of another man.

When the days get dark

and you can't see the light,

embrace it with hope and

fight the good fight.

For darkness allows for

the light to be seen.

And suddenly you see

that light's more serene.

So go on and persist.

You could save us all.

Let your dreams walk

no matter how much you fall.

We all need to fall,

before we walk tall.

Lunatic

Do you ever wonder why the

moon stands guard at night?

It's because it would do

anything to feel the sun's light.

Now I feel like the moon;

you've made me your lunatic.

So many stars stand by me;

in lieu of them it's you I pick.

They shine around me but

still leave me feeling so dim.

Your rays light up my world

and shade my body on a whim.

I made my body turn pale

when I gave you my heart.

But now our souls are united

even when space keeps us apart.

So, please, shine on my sun,

I'm telling you that I need you.

Your light keeps me strong

so in the night I can see it thru.

As I search for you among the stars,

just know together the sky is ours

Hope Slowly Dies

She's hurting,

the pain is in her eyes.

She wants to believe but

the truth is lost in lies.

Staying strong outside

while her inside cries.

With each passing day,

her hope slowly dies.

He's no better,

running mile after mile.

So tired of running but

won't walk for awhile.

The pain keeps flowing

like he's lost in the Nile.

Still he faces the world

with a sinister smile.

The tell themselves,

"Just keep swimming.

It looks like we're drowning

but we're actually winning.

Being strong keeps us bright.

Any weakness is so dimming.

You couldn't ever understand,

your walls are never thinning."

It's odd,

really, it makes no sense.

His want to shed light on her

city's greater than Harvey Dent's.

But the world's made him two-

faced at his heart's expense.

She wants to make his world

seem no longer so dense.

But its density leaves her lonely

like it's her consequence.

They won't help themselves

and can't help the other hence.

Yet they plead,

"Please, loosen your stance.

I could be the keys to the lock

if we'd only give it a chance.

But life has mislead us and

left us in some sort of trance.

We've been seeing the world

thru the wrong lens perchance.

Maybe we'll see beautiful colors

if we give it another glance."

But they don't.

And they won't.

Spell Bound

I swear, you can't be real.

What you do to me is so surreal.

It's like a scene through a movie real.

Falling for you wasn't part of the deal,

But I can't help it, I'm spell bound.

Once lost in the world, my soul you found.

Your words move me without a sound.

And when you do speak, the world spins round.

Your presence is more presents than I'll ever need.

You looked past my shackles, and now I'm freed.

The moment we met, we planted a seed

that could never be harmed by any weed.

Let's face it, I'm yours till the end.

Your fruits I'll taste, your fields I'll tend.

Tomorrow may lead our hearts to bend,

But the towers of love is ours to defend.

And trust me, we will defend.

Love in Action

He said, "Girl, I love you.

Always have, always will.

The sands of time tested

us, but love stands, still.

This love that we share,

for it others would kill.

No valley too low nor

high mountain or hill

can keep me from you,

Your dreams I'll fulfill."

But the words ran dry,

only working like a pill.

They never fixed things.

Only made things less ill.

When the clock struck zero,

"love," one, actions, nil.

See, love is just a word

that carries no worth.

But it's something we're

told, right from birth.

Why can't we act "love"

to give the word rebirth.

Then maybe love can

return and fill the earth.

For now, I won't use love

until the action I unearth.

The Edge of Flight

He stands on the edge, waiting.

"The view from here is liberating."

He's more than ready for this flight.

No carry on today, he packed light.

Questions unanswered, in his head.

"Maybe I should take the bus instead.

I am no pilot and this flight is one way.

This place ain't bad, maybe I'll stay."

The breeze of the wind at his back,

is a comfort that he once would lack.

He thinks about the friends he'd leave.

And then about the friends he'd relieve.

Opportunity rising in each gasp of air.

Finally a game that really seemed fair.

Closer he crept, mere inches from a fall.

"Soon my troubles won't matter at all."

The future uncertain, the past won't change.

The present a gift you can't ever exchange.

"Maybe I've given you the best of me

and after this flight I'll sleep restfully.

People don't miss the good till it's gone.

So this flight can make me good thereon."

It was never supposed to be like this.

One step closer with a Devilish kiss.

Breathing deeply, he closes his eyes.

Finally, he starts to see truth in lies.

Never before has he felt this alive.

Maybe, feelings will rise with a dive.

"Please, love, for me do not weep.

For this consequence I chose to reap.

And the item I want won't come cheap.

So I'll buy it alone, without one peep."

Shaky hands, he tries hard to steady.

No more thinking, he knows he's ready.

Inching closer, it's time to decide.

Take flight or stay for the ride?

The Prayer

Dear God,

Please forgive me

but who are you?

So many names

learned from a pew.

They preach love

and we repeat.

But Church ends,

and love we beat.

We learn to turn

the other cheek.

But we turn it

to the weak.

It's so bleak.

I want to believe

without a doubt

but I'm in the dark

feeling life out.

I try to see you

in what we do.

How can you bare

the bad we do?

Your image made

us, so they say.

Then why is it

so hard to pray

when times are

good, and fine.

Only when low,

please help divine.

I know you're there,

oh higher being.

Please blame me

not, for not seeing.

People care too much

for your scripture.

Then we all lose,

the bigger picture.

I'm tired of the

words they repeat.

For their words never

leave their seat.

So forgive, my

absence of Church.

In the world,

for you I search.

Amen.
