A Lover's Last Words

In times when love is not often seen,

One man found a girl that made life serene.

“Hello, my love, how are you today?

It’s been eight years since you passed away.

My heart grows fonder with each year.

Forever my lady, my lover, my dear.

Though through the years, time took its toll,

When I met you, I met a mate for my soul.

I’d fight for your love through the seven seas.

Why, oh why, did you have to leave me?”

The man took a seat, and looked at his love,

Knowing she was sent from the stars above.

“It’s been two weeks since we last spoke,

I dreamt that you left me, and my heart broke.

The kids are well, and the year is almost new.

For some reason, though, I still feel blue.

You stole my attention, right from the start,

And when you said “yes,” you stole my heart.

Since you left me, the days began to wane.

I fought on for you, and ignored all the pain.”

He dropped to his knees, a tear down his face,

As he spoke to her softly in her laying place.

“My sweetie, my dear, I’m ready to see,

The day your warm arms come welcome me.

This year, for Christmas, I only desire

to lay by the warmth of your heart’s fire.

No other woman could ever compare,

Now it’s time to get what is only fair.

I fought many battles, the war’s finally won.

My love, my soul mate, now to you I come.”

He crept closer, bent down, and gave her a kiss.

To eternal slumber, he fell, and was granted his wish.

To Set in the West

Her eyes are heavy.

I'd lighten the load-

if she'd only let me.

If she let down her wall-

she'd never regret me.

I just want her to smile.

I'd change that frown-

if she'd stay for a while.

I'd lighten her load-

that's just not her style.

Like this since day one.

Stands her ground-

while others run.

Fighting the fight-

'till the battle's won.

But she knows best.

Carrying her load-

until eternal rest.

Follows the sun-

to set in the west.

Lost in My Game

Please, don't let me mislead you.

I've always tried to remain true.

My heart lies hidden, stored away.

Maybe I'll find the keys one day.

I never meant to make you fall.

I just hoped to help you stand tall.

You just kept crawling back for more.

I wonder if you were better before.

I just never wanted to hurt you.

But by avoiding it, the hurt ensued.

I'm sorry you got lost in my game.

I promise, life's better, after the rain.

Superman

I never wanted you

to be my superman.

My request was simple,

for you to be a man.

I idolized you more than

any person with powers.

A smile from you could

make me fly for hours.

To me, you were strong,

with no known kryptonite.

But that wasn't enough,

you decided to take flight.

When you could not fly,

the world was not fair.

You became Lex Luther and

I wished you weren't there.

Maybe it was my fault,

and I asked for too much.

Your eyes burn my skin,

and I cringe from your touch.

An ordinary man, you

were a superhero to me.

I wanted to emulate you,

now I'd like to be free.

Your presence alone could

have aced my hardest test.

But you got lost in the dark,

and its defeat is my quest.

I am no superman.

There is no S on my chest.

I'm not even a super man.

To that you can attest.

But kryptonite won't stop

me, from saving Louis Lane,

or spinning the world 'round

to take away your pain.
